Additional Residential Units (ARU) Registry Application

Complete the form below to register your Additional Residential Unit (ARU). You must complete all required fields, marked with an asterisk (*), before you submit the application.

As of April 1, 2025, all ARUs in Milton — new, existing, occupied or vacant — must be registered with the Town to ensure they are:

• Safe and legal
• Compliant with zoning bylaws
• Properly documented to support fire and rescue services in an emergency

Supporting Information and ID Verification

* Government-issued photo identification is required to verify property ownership and the identity of the applicant and property owner. If you are applying on behalf of a property owner, you must also submit your own identification. Accepted forms of government-issued identification include a valid driver’s license, passport, or other photo ID issued by a provincial, federal or territorial government in Canada, except for provincial health cards.

I declare that I am the Property Owner, Property Manager/Agent for the Property, and/or Tenant, and all statements made herein are true and are made with full knowledge that false information provided on this application or contravention of By-law NO. 032-2025, as may be amended from time to time, may result in revocation of the license, prosecution under the By-law or both, without benefit of further notice.

I hereby acknowledge that I have read and understand the regulations as set out in Town of Milton, Additional Residential Unit By-law NO. 032-2025, as amended.

I hereby acknowledge that ARU registration includes an in-person inspection of the ARU by Municipal By-Law Enforcement Officers and Milton Fire and Rescue Services.

I acknowledge that Town staff may access and review documents within its custody and control related to this ARU, for example building permits and technical drawings.

I also acknowledge that personal information collected as part of this registration process may be subject to release to partnering enforcement agencies in an event of a law enforcement investigation to ensure the compliance of this by-law and all other legislation.

Payment

An Additional Residential Unit Registration fee of $340 per ARU is required. All fees are non‑refundable.
